F riday, 10 February 2006, the Guildford Astronomical Society had its Golden Jubilee dinner at Waites House at Surrey University. It was a great evening with members and partners attending. Several past presidents attended.

Brian Shorter, the Society's historian, gave a talk on the early history of the Society. Unfortunately, he had to keep it short. We would have loved to hear a lot more, Brian! How about a talk at a future Society meeting? On display was some of the Society history, old Skywatchers and documents relating to the purchase of the John Smith Telescope and more, all well prepared and presented by Brian.

Tony Marsh hosted a pub quiz, enjoyed by all. There was definitely some cheating going on and not everyone was willing to disclose their scores.

And there was food too, enjoyed by all!

John Bushell came prepared with music for the disco. Waites House had a music system set up. Unfortunately, things went on a bit late, so there wasn't much time for dancing afterwards. Sorry, John, maybe next time? Thanks to all who made this evening possible. We MUST do this again!
